The road in the right foreground is approximately where Beaverton Hillsdale Highway is today. At the time of this photo the highway did not exist, the foregound road was a dead-end dirt lane. To get to Beaverton from Hillsdale by wagon, one would have followed Hoffman Road (SW Vermont Street) to Oleson Road, taken Oleson Road north to Schools Ferry Road, followed Schools Ferry Road south to Raleigh (about a half mile southwest of what we now know as Raleigh HIlls), where the Southern Pacific Railroad crossed Scholls Ferry, at what is now the intersection of SW Scholls Ferry Road and SW Jamieson. From the railroad crossing the traveller would have followed a route roughly equal to today’s SW Jamieson Road, to SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, to SW 170th, to Canyon Road, and then into Beaverton via Canyon Road.
Alternately, one could have followed Slavin Road (SW Captiol Highway) to Garden Home Road, taken what is now SW 92nd Avenue north to Scholls Ferry Road, followed Scholls Ferry Road north to the Southern Pacific Railroad Railroad crossing, and continued on as above.
Roughly the same view in 2012, courtesy Google Earth. Albertsons is in the bottom left, SW Beaverton Hillsdale in the extreme lower right.
